Dan – really do check out a local hydro store. They have all kinds of amendments and such, as well as (usually) local knowledge of the water and such. The PH in the water can be as important as the soil.
My water here is PH 8.4 out the faucet. So I have to lower the PH before I use it on anything.
I need about 6.5 – 7.0 for the veggies. So yeah, go through a ton of PH Down products!

I just picked tomatos for dinner tonight from the aquaponics system. Greenhouse growth rocks!
